I am currently watching this, and I have watched 3 episodes of this series. I was skeptical at first, because the story doesn’t revolve around high-flying dragons, heroes like Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister, or around Kings & Queens. The story revolves around a knight and a child. The child actually works as a squire. But I will not spoil anything for you. I am writing this for you to tell you why you should watch this series.
Engaging Story:
The main and most important point of this series is its story. The story keeps you hooked for whole episodes, and its episodes are also not that long, like it was the case for GOT, and HOTD. The story is its strong point, where a knight has just lost his father, and makes up his mind to become the best knight. Who doesn’t love this kind of story, where the main character goes on a journey to become something he never imagined. I don’t know about you guys, but I love this kind of story a lot.
Our knight’s name is Dunk. Quite an ordinary name, I know, but it is what it is. Dunk is a hedge-knight by the way, meaning he is a knight who doesn’t own any land. His journey is to become a hero from zero. You see what I did there. I am a great writer, am I not?
The squire who joins with Dunk is named Egg. Yes, I know another really bad name, but these are the same people who made GOT’s last season, which we all know, how bad it was. The story between them is the backbone of this series, and a strong reason why you should watch it.
The pacing of the series is actually quite nice as well. As I told you in the intro, this series doesn’t waste our time in the politics of its world, and just comes directly to the point. Another strong reason to watch this series.
Relatable Characters:
What I liked about this series is its adaptation of reality. This series shows the real struggle of humanity. Unlike the previous series, where characters like Jon Snow had a destiny, and Daenerys had magic, and three dragons. Our heroes in this series don’t have any of this, which makes this series a lot more relatable and feels real. They have to work hard for every competition, hurdle, and for every bread. This thing makes the series unique and a lot different from the previous ones.
The morality this series portrays is amazing through Dunk. Dunk is an honest person who wants to work honestly and fight for justice in a world of hatred and filth, which makes the series a lot relatable again. People are connecting to Dunk’s story more than Jon Snow and Daenerys.
And what can I say about Egg? I don’t want to spoil it for you guys. Egg is not an ordinary person, yep, this is right. This creates suspense in the story, which makes the series watchable.
Visuals and Cinematography:
Another reason why I am loving this series is its visuals. This series doesn’t show any Dragonstone or King’s Landing. In this series, you’ll see beautiful greenery, old castles, and amazing countryside. This makes the series unique and more beautiful to see. I love it, and when you see it for yourself, then I know, I am not guaranteeing anything, because I don’t know anyone’s taste, but I know, you’ll guys love it.
The action in this series is just pure and realistic, which makes it more relatable than the other series of the same genre. The action is not “over the top”, it’s actually just real. That’s it, that’s what I can say, because I don’t want to spoil it for you guys. The sword fighting and the tournaments in which our Dunk takes part in, looks stunning and real.
Why it’s Perfect for Casual Viewers:
People who haven’t watched Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon ever (DON’T KNOW WHO THEY ARE?), they can also tune in and watch this series, because this series provides a fresh and new story, and a much different story than those two.
This series is a breath of fresh air because it doesn’t include those heavy politics that I personally hate. This series brings a new concept, where a knight just follows the path to become the best knight. Not a hero, not to stop wars, not to sit on a throne, just to become a good knight.
Final Verdict:
If you are a fan of the GOT franchise or a new viewer who hasn’t watched anything, this series is perfect for both audiences. This series reminds us that for a series story to become successful, it doesn’t need large-scale wars included in the series, they can become successful if they have nice characters and their clear and good intentions are sometimes enough to make it successful. It is an emotional journey about a knight and his squire.
I’ll give this series a rating of 4.5/5.
